Americans can relax another 6? months? for the new "urgent" need for passports because the government cannot meet the demand soon enough...thought this was an absolute..so the next 6 months don't matter. Are the pesudo terrorists taking a break...?

There is more detail to it than that. They have to be traveling by to Mexico, the Caribean and Canada with a photo ID AND a copy of the document ( receipt) from the State Department, which has a tracking number attached to it, showing that a passport application is pending for the document holder. This will only be until September when supposedly they will catch up with the backlog. This does not help people who have not yet applied for a passport and it does not affect those traveling by car to Mexico and Canada or those traveling by sea to Mexico, the Caribean and Canada

The devil is in the details. You have to show proof you applied for the passport. Then you can travel with just birth certificate and photo ID.
