Assuming the transmission is an automatic??
Check transmission fluid level.

Engine running @ an idle. Shifter lever in PARK. Apply the parking brake. If OK, check that the shifter cable is adjusted correctly. If OK, then the transmission has failed.

Does the truck die whilst it idles? if it is the case, Your transmission's lock up torque converter take carry of won't be liberating. it is largely an identical project as in case you tried to renounce a handbook transmission motor vehicle devoid of pushing interior the take carry of pedal. If it could idle ok, and basically dies randomly, then i might guess that it incredibly is a controversy of a warped flywheel or probable would have broken or bent something interior the differential. if it is the case then it would desire to be high priced maintenance, no count number if it incredibly is that undesirable then i does no longer even get it mounted, i understand my 02' explorer blue e book cost is basically around $4,000-$4,500 and tade in is even worse, around $one million,500. no count number if it incredibly is a transmission or differental project, then it would desire to cost upward of $700 in basic terms for areas, and because transmission maintenance take awhile, with mechanic costs at $70/hr or extra you're staring at restore expenses better than $1000
