The real problem is that our sentencing guidelines are broad. I think there should be mandatory sentences for crimes. Judges have too much power.

Attorneys sometime judge shop to find judges who may be sympathetic to particular issues which might get their clients lenient sentences.

speaking from the standpoint of a young teenage boy. He is probably the happiest boy in that school.. If he has sex with a teenage girl, and even if she winds up pregnant, nobody goes to jail although 2 lives are very disrupted. Now: understand I don't condone a teacher molesting a child, but be realistic, does anyone actually believe the boy's life was ruined? Not much chance of that. So, should the teacher be imprisoned? no, but she should have her teaching certificate revoked.

Depends on the age of the minor, which is probably why the teacher got such a light sentence.

Paris Hilton drove whilst both drunk and disqualified, it was a second offence so she had already shown a contempt for the law. Her sentence was certainly reasonable to my mind - money and fame should not mean that you are above the law.

The teacher got of easy. As for Paris according to CA law 14601 she could have gotten up to 90days for more than two violation of driving with a suspended license from a DUI. It is written in plain english. The law also stated that she should have served jail time for the second time she was stopped, but they let her slide.

Pris Hilton had already been punished by the court. She broke the banning order. So her crime was for contempt of court.
I don't know about the female teacher's case. I didn't read anythin about it. But it does seem too little.

I agree the teacher should have got more, had it been a male teacher and a female minor, this would be termed as statutory rape and the man would have been behind bars for atleast 10 years. I feel the law is way too leanient to women.

if Paris would of just only had sex with the female teacher..

instead of violating probation..which was dramatically
plea-bargained down..
acting like the HS drop-out..she is in Court...allowing her Mother to ridicule the Judge in his Court..convincing the Sheriff to release her and put the Judge in the Hotseat with the media...and acted anything but like an ignorant 8 year old..

she'd have another internet bonanza to fund her hedonistic style that only idiots covet..instead of being at the will of the
State of California's Justice System

I know a lot of people don't like Paris Hilton but I still think her punishment is a bit excessive for the offense. Why is it that a lot of rappers and athletes get a lot less punishment for gun crimes, and shootings than she does for her offense?
