Paris Hilton WAS the perpetrator, sadly, while everyone focus's on their dislike for the rich, she is now a victim,as is the judge. The debate should not be about Paris Hilton, the debate should be on the flaws in the justice system. The Sheriff is the real criminal,he destroyed himself,he hurt Paris,he hurt the judge, and he undermined the public's confidence in the legal system. If there was a problem with the judge's CLEAR order that she NOT be confined at home was wrong, then it should have been addressed through "the system"It wasn't. By doing a back door sneakout at 2 AM,the sheriff clearly violated the order of the court. Forcing the judge to react. He then went over the line in adding the rest of the days back to her sentence,to appease the public. "Good behavior" is a valid legal concept. She didn't escape, she was let out. Now,the judge suffers for it. Paris suffers more now(that is undue mental anguish to be freed then brought back to jail in handcuffs, regardless, and the public is outraged. How sad. The same people who want to bury her under the jail..are upset because justice is supposed to be blind! Then, they turn around and are guilty of the same thing. It is not about Paris,It should be about a deeply flawed system, and the publics' trust in it. Instead of taking this opprtunity to engage in debate about the 'system"It is about Paris. Let's look at the system, and why the sheriff violated the judges' order, outraging the public, forcing the judge into a corner, and really giving an unfair addition to Paris's sentence. I really don't care the crime,it is not right to release someone then jail them the next day unless they escaped. Shame on that sheriff,he is the biggest culprit. If he would have went through the system, all this mess could have been avoided. Now,instead of examining the inequalities of the system, there is the outcry to "hang Paris"There should have been no "special treatment" in her release. By the same token, there should be no "special treatment" in the outcry to "nail her" Justice for all, even those we dislike. The system is the problem, not Paris

It's certainly been an emotional roller-coaster for her. She should have 'done her time' like she had apparently conditioned herself to do. When some kind of bureaucratic 'snafu' let her out early, she got caught up in an apparent power-struggle between the judge and the sheriff. That's led to her re-incarceration, and will no doubt lead to her going into a deep depression. What would have been so wrong with the judge agreeing to go along with the sheriff's decision to put her under house arrest? There may have been good reason for it; perhaps he believed her 'medical condition' was something that couldn't be treated in jail, or would have been detrimental to her health. -RKO- 06/09/07

She was on probation when she drove whiled she was drinking! Twice! Just because she's famous doesn't mean she gets special treatment, even though she did get off really easy. How about you do what she did and see how long you're in jail. Trust me, Paris Hilton got off easy.

Who cares, the poor little rich girl has to suffer through 1/10th of what any other American would have to.
Anyone who isn't rich and famous in the US would have had their license pulled on the first DUI, the second they'd have definitely gone to jail, the third, and you're staying there for a lot more than a lousy 45 days.
Paris deserves all she gets, and more.

I agree that there is worse cases out there but she should only have to serve 40 days because she went to jail for five days then everybody told her to go back home. I think that it is the cops and judge's fault because they told her to go, she didn't just leave! Here is a little snipit of her coming back to jail:
She was taken handcuffed and crying from her home. She was escorted into court disheveled, without makeup, hair askew and face red with tears.
Crying out for her mother when she was ordered back to jail, Paris Hilton's cool, glamorous image evaporated Friday as she gave the impression of a little girl lost in a merciless legal system.
"It's not right!" shouted the weeping Hilton. "Mom!" she called out to Kathy Hilton, who also was in tears.
The 26-year-old hotel heiress tried to move toward her parents but was firmly steered away by two sheriff's deputies, who held her by each arm and hustled her from the courtroom.
Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer was apparently unmoved by the pleas of Hilton's three lawyers to send her back to home confinement due to an unspecified medical condition. He ordered Hilton returned to a Los Angeles County jail to serve out the remainder of her 45-day sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
The judge gave no explanation for his ruling. But his comments throughout the hearing showed he was affronted by county Sheriff Lee Baca's decision to set aside his instructions and release Hilton after three days in jail to finish her time in the luxury of her Hollywood Hills home.
Her lawyers said the reason for her release was an unspecified medical condition. The judge suggested that could be taken care of at jail medical facilities.

Do you believe that the laws against drunk driving should be repealed? Do you approve of probation violations?
Do you think her $1,500 fine should be repaid to her, maybe even with interest? Do you think that the members of MADD and SADD should be forced to disband their organizations?
Drunk drivers can be killers. The law is just trying to keep her from killing somebody.
Even if you, personally, rescued her from jail, she still wouldn't marry you.

Seriously?! SHE WAS DRIVING DRUNK! Should the authorities wait until she actually kills somebody before action is taken? This reality check may actually save her life. Perhaps the judge has done for her what her parents and priviliaged lifestyle never did. Maybe she and her peers will learn that there are real and actual consequences to your actions.

Drunk Drivers are killers. She got less than she deserved. You drive drunk and violate probation twice and see what you get.
It'll be a lot more than 45 days.
btw. only questions end in a question mark. You didn't even get that right.
