and if you're single will you do that with your future partner?

Absolutely never. There must be lack of trust somewhere in the relationship or in one prior. Also people who don't trust their spouses or partners, may not be trust worthy themselves.
What have you been doing lately?

No, we have trust in our relationship. I wouldn't even ask him to let me check his email. We have seperate accounts, we trust each other, & there would never be a reason for me to get access to his, or vise versa, since we have our own. If there is something the other needs to see, we forward it. I personally wouldn't be with someone who wanted access to my accounts & such, I think that shows paranoia more than anything.

It might be warranted...in my situation I gave my current husband my email password, to ease his concerns about my online chats. Of course he did not offer the same in return.
But due to my accidental snooping of his personal postal mailings. I came across very deceiptive information on him.
So yea Im checking everything NOW. I want more hard evidence before I bring the thunder!!!!!!!! Its sad you cant trust anybody these days.

I did at first after she had an affair. We went to counciling and are working things out and doing pretty well. So I checked alot when i suspected something was going on and sure enough, caught her. Now that we are open on everything I hardly ever ck it anymore.

my wife and I have each others emails and passwords...

i've never checked hers... i dont think i need to... not because i'm nieve but because i'm secure in myself enough that i dont have time in my life to worry about it.

I gave her mine because she isnt as secure, coming from a bad previous marriage (i think the openness helps her alot). She can go in mine as she wishes, I have nothing to hide.

The only reason a couple need seperate emails is because they have seperate friends, family, interests etc and really sorta need their own emails.

but .....
if you are truely a couple why would you need secret passwords????? what could you possibly be hiding from each other???? i dont believe any coiuple should share anything with anyone else that they wouldnt share with each other.... that is the fast road to failure of a relationship...

secret passwords??? not from each other. i want my wife to know that she can always know i have nothing to hide... she has the key to the house, the key to the car, the key to the safe deposit box, the password to the bank account, the password to my email, and the key to my heart... thats what a loving relationship is about. no secrets

No, as relationships need to be built on trust. However, when things change so drastically in a relationship that makes you question the change, then it might be wise to check on things.

Yes I do and I will say he has excess to mine as well. We share everything including our emails. We have nothing to hide from each other. ( We have been together for ten years and it's simply b/c we have trust and respect for each other.)

I only checked after she had an affair and I saw everything in black and white.

Don't check. Trust!

I don't check any of my husbands accounts. He's never denied me access to anything, but I've never felt like I've needed to.

Yes, all the time. Just to see often if his family has written. We have total access to everything of each others.
