What is the impact of isolated foreign policy on a country? Any example of this?

Isolation often leads to weakness. Look at the apartheid government of South Africa. Citizen could not earn money because they could not sell goods and citizens could not buy necessities because of trade embargoes. Political change occurred because the government could no longer maintain isolated without rebellion.
