I solved this problem. :)
I normally wake up fine because I can set myself a time and wake up almost on the dot, but when I have a weekend or I've had a late night doing something, then I may not.

What I did is buy a small CD/Radio hifi, though be better now getting a DAB digital radio - I also have a DAB digital radio and that sets the time via the air and has a timer on it - but I use my old system as an alarm.

My digital radio plays MP3s as well! To save wear on hardware, I set the chosen radio to come on at a set time at a loud volume. I usually then wake up before it does! :)

I also have a poor alarm clock that does it's bit half an hour before. The radio is point of no return...

I have a full drum set on the landing at home. When the kids didn't want to wake up, Yes, I would give it a full drum solo. so effective and so satisfying.

Get ten alarm clocks, set them for two minutes apart and place them around your room. By the time you've got up to turn off the last one you should be awake.

put an old fashioned alarm clock in a saucepan on top of your wardrobe

the echo in the saucepan will be loudly unbearable, you will need to make an effort to get out of bed to reach the top of the wardrobe and you will be awake

visitors may ask you why you have a saucepan on top of your wardrobe, just tell them it's to keep your alarm clock in!!

my dad comes in to wake me up by opening the curtains/blinds whilst brushing his teeth (with an electric toothbrush) which makes loads of noise.
it works, trust me.
