Don't let ally get to you -- she is WRONG ANYWAY! Goldfish have been known to live 40 years. Fancies can live more than 15 years. How big is your tank? He may need an upgrade. If he is a fancy he could be getting old. Greast job taking care of him. I would check all the water levels to make sure it's OK. Is he doing anything else funny? The person who said six months must kill a lot of baby fish!

There are comments of goldfish residing see you later as 30 years. extensive-unfold goldfish stay plenty longer than the fancier kinds, although generally, with the right nutrition, residing residing house and care, 10-15 years is a competent life span for a goldie. They maximum maximum probable die upfront provided that of insufficient care, room, or being delivered immediately into an uncycled tank. My contemporary goldfish are a veiltail/fantail mixture and a shubunkin. The shubunkin is 5, the mixture is basically approximately 10.....And seeing as I have been given him as quickly as I wasa first-time fish keeper at suitable 6, that's not risky going!

Congratulations, he's a lucky fish! If he is showing no obvious signs of illness, like strange behaviour or abnormal appearance I would suggest he's just bored, needs a larger tank & is feeling hemmed-in? How about moving or changing some of his scenery, Goldfish are extremely inquisitive & intelligent creatures & need lots of mental stimulation. They also love each other's company so if he's on his own what about letting him 'adopt' a slightly smaller tank mate? You might like to vary his daily menu if he's only on flakes or pellets, Goldfish like a vast array of foods, many of which are the same as we eat, the link below gives you some tasty treats! Unfortunately the vast majority of Goldfish never make it past 6 months mainly due to bad advice (often from the pet store) & widespread ignorance but properly housed & cared for 20 years + is quite feasible.

Depends, fancy goldfish 15-20 in ideal conditions. Single tailed fish have been known to live in thier 40's! Koi even longer. Do a big water change and see if he perks up in the next few days. Nitrates may be too high.

well maybe the way there fed or w/e keeps alive longer
when i was like 11months old my mom bought me a gold fish
and i loved him and my dad brought home a catfish from the elkhorn river and put it the tank at first like the first 6 moths maybe i would say they started fighting well actually my dad died when i was like 2 or 3 so thats when they started fighting and the catfish beat my goldfish up BAD! but my goldfish just kept fighting back and back and finally we took the cat out and my goldfish lived up till i was in about 4 grade or w/e but in the long run i had him for 11yrs and hes dead now but he survived various fish attacks( i had mini sharks and an oscar that put him threw hell) so yeah i guess they can live longer then 11yrs if they have calmer lives
