I wonder sometimes if it isn't simply a case of asking the wrong question. Symbols have meanings, but is life merely symbolic? It seems to be more of a process, in which case the question my be better phrased "What is the purpose or function of life?"

Questions like this are not really philosophy. Philosophy is a determined attempt to think clearly and consistently while describing what is universally the case. It means to love wisdom. The meaning to life, the universe and everything belongs in the religion section. No Philosopher I know ever tried to answer such a sweeping question, (oops, except Kant, and Hegel) The more interesting philosophers bit off smaller chunks and tried to use the little candle of human reason to see as far as it can. It usually gets lost the the blazing search light of faith. That problem is best dealt with by Brand Blanchard.

The question reveals a sad existence. I only look for things that I have lost. I haven't lost the meaning of my life.

You can also choose the meaning that your life has and work from that point forward.

Try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.
