Hello,
(ANS) The importance of the biosphere is obvious, there couldn't be any life without the right conditions. The biosphere provides those conditions, the water cycle, the oceans that power our global weather systems, the atmosphere that provides humans with oxygen & protection from dangerous rays from the sun and so on & so on, its a long listing.
Everything is interlinked on our planet, we are all inter-dependant upon what the earth itself provides. The earth is a finite resource NOT as some people seem to think an in-finite one. This is why climate modification & global warming pose the ultimate threat to the human species.

The biosphere is the part of the earth, including air, land, surface rocks, and water, within which life occurs, and which biotic processes in turn alter or transform. From the broadest biophysiological point of view,
The continued functioning of the biosphere is dependent not only on the maintainance of the intimate interactions among the myriad species within local communities but also on the looser yet crucial interactions of all species and communities around the globe. The Earth is blanketed with so many species and so many different kinds of biological communities…

The biosphere is the portion of the Earth where conditions exist that can support life - where life exists; as you are part of the biosphere, it keeps you alive. In poetic terms it's called Gaia.

It is not important, unless you place importance upon living things, in that case it is very important and indeed essential.
