I have been taking self-defense classes for a while, and of course, groin kicks are taught a lot. I've heard stories of how they haven't worked, and some how they have.
Some of my guy friends say that they are effective, and others say that they won't work if a guy's attacking me and is adrenalized.
I've asked this on yahoo answers once before, but, does anyone know for sure if they'd be effective? Have you used them (or had them used on you, if you're a guy)? Will they incapacitate a guy right away? Or is there a delay, like some people say?
I've also heard that the eyes and throat are more effective targets, but that would require the arms, and I'd think it'd be better to keep someone at leg's length, if you've managed to create distance. (If not, your arms might be bound.)

I've used the groin kick on a couple of guys. Once I kicked them there, it was all over for them. Of course, it's worth mentioning that I play college soccer also.

...I can't imagine kicking a woman in the groin would hurt as much as it would kicking a man in the groin. You would have to kick pretty hard. It would just be easier to strike somewhere else if you're defending yourself. Are you in a self defense class that teaches how to defend against female attackers? I mean, I know some women can be just as violent as men, but I've never seen a self defense lesson like that.

Yes, groin kicks hurt a lot, and if a guys not fighting he'll probably stop what he's doing. However if a guy is fighting or attacking, a groin kick won't do more than cause a fraction of a second pause before he resumes. He will be really pissed of though. I can't imagine any guy in a real fight stopping just because of a groin kick. Probably the most overrated move in self defense.

Groin attacks cause very significant pain to both males and females.
However, a successful groin attack against someone who can fight competently is not as easy as some other people here are saying.
Also, a groin attack ONLY causes pain. A groin attack will not end a fight. If a groin attack is all you know, you're going to get killed. You seem to want to be told that if you can attack an offender groin, you will win. This is false. If you go into a fight with that mentality, you will lose. They are NOT as effective or as easy to perform properly as the media portrays.

I'm sorry, but when it comes right down to it, anything can happen in a real fight. The groin is one of the most sensitive parts of a man's body. If an attacking man is "adrenalized" he might be able to with stand a kick or a punch to any part of his body. If you are in a real self-defense situation, and you believe you could be seriously hurt; go for the throat or the eyes. Even if he is "adrenalized," or even on crack, if he can't see you, he can't hurt you.

Interesting that You chose to ask this question in the 'Women's Studies' section rather than a more 'male oriented' area. Only a Man would be able to tell You how it feels to be kicked in the groin. Yet You have chosen to 'empower' Women with the thought of what 'They' may, or may not be able to do to a man/boy.
Would You like Me to instruct Men on how best to cripple Females? Be very careful when using Answers. If for some reason a person was to go out tonight and 'test' what 'they' had learned, and blamed You for the information it could place You in a very awkward situation. Think very carefully about the consequences of Your actions.
The simple fact of the matter is that when You injure a Man's genitals He is far more likely to go for a 'kill shot' by way of retaliation. He does not know how badly You may have Injured Him. So his only option is to do as much damage to You as He can. This added aggression is normally fed by a rush of adrenalin and pain suppressing chemicals: a homocidal combination. There are things Your instructors do not tell You because if They did You would never finish the class. Have You ever wondered why it is that movies show Men being kneed, kicked, punched, shot, stabbed, or otherwise struck in the groin, yet do not dare do likewise with regards Women? Appart from the obvious social backlash and moral outcry that would occur there is the 'damage control' factor to be considered. Do You want to see hospitals full of broken, crippled Women? I don't think that We do. Yet that is precisely what would transpire if Men (and Boys) ever learned just how susceptable Women are to permanant injury as the result of a 'blunt force trauma'.
If I were You I would remover this question before it initiates repercussions the like of which You have not contemplated.

yes, i train in karate n we do a lot of groin attacks in some of our kata. it doesn't necessarily have to a kick. it could be a hand strike or even knee strike. hit the groin directly hurts, but even attacks to the sides of them hurt (left n right side of the inner thighs). this is becuase there is hardly any muscle here n that we don't get hit here often. also u can hit above the groin, to make them wet their pants lol.

I have seen it t be affective. But if a guy was really crazy or something, he might just go through the pain. If your hands are bound and the groin thing didn't work, I would head butt them. It sounds painful, but it just might work. You could also bite them as hard as you can. If its an emergency, then I would do whatever I had to to survive.

There's a million ways to do a groin kick that he simply cannot see coming, even if he has both your arms from behind.
