MITOSIS : - IT TAKES PLACE IN BODY CELLS
- IT IS RELATED TO GROWTH
- DURING MITOSIS 2 CELLS ARE PRODUCED
- THE CHROMOSOME NUMBER REMAIN SAME
- THERE IS NO GENETIC VARIATION
MEIOSIS : - IT TAKES PLACE IN TESTIS(MALE) AND OVARIES(FEMALE)
- DURING MEIOSIS 4 CELLS ARE PRODUCED
- THE CHROMOSOME NUMBER IS HALVED
- THERE IS GENETIC VARIATION

Mitosis is the main type of cell division in the body that "makes" any cell in the body except sperm and eggs.
1 cell becomes 2 cells and have the same number of chromosomes as you started with (eg in humans its 46 or 23 pairs). Some people remember My-toe sis to remind themsleves its to do with general everyday body cells like the toes for general growth, repair etc.
Meiosis is a special type of cell division ONLY associated with the production of SPERM AND EGGS (or gamates as they are called).
If you understand WHY you need a special type of cell division for these cells, it may help you. When fertilisation occurs and sperm and egg get together and their chromosomes "merge" as the sperm supplies 1 set of 23 chromosomes as does the egg so that when fertilisation occurs the resulting cell (zygote) has 46 chromosomes (23 pairs again) like the every other cell in the body.
Humans do like EXTRA chromosomes...its hard even with 1 extra chromosome (eg Down Syndrome, Kleinfleters syndrome, Edwards Syndrome etc) let alone an entire set which is what would happen if a sperm and egg had the same number of chromosomes as every other cell in the body, so MEIOSIS HALVES the number of chromosomes.
This is done in 2 steps where step 1 is identical to mitosis (1 cell divides into 2 and each cell still has 46 chromosomes) but there is a SECOND DIVISION which halves the 46 into 23......for the reasons I have just outlined above.
Hope that helps!

In mitosis chromosomes separates and form into 2 same units of daughter nuclei Meiosis is a reductional cellular branch the place the form of chromosomes is split into 0.5

In meiosis the cell is left left with half the number of chromosomes after division, so that when sperm and egg unite, there is the proper number
(haploid). In mitosis, the cell divides and has a full number of chromosomes.

the main difference is mitosis just divide the cell but meiosis helps in exchange of chromosomes by crossing over.
mitosis helps in wear and tear of the body but meiosis helps in variation.

The "meosis syndrome" is where one is excessively concerned about him/herself, where everything is all about "me, me, me, me!", while the "mitosis syndrome" is where one is excessively concerned about what belongs to him/her, where everything is "mine, mine, mine, mine!"
