I don't believe the plant itself is outlawed, just the drug that comes from refining it. I'd say to check with the DEA, and then with your home state because each state law can be different from the federal laws as long as it is at least as restrictive as the federal version. Here is a link to a place that sells coca tea in the USA: http://boliviastores.com/Coca-tea-Windsor-100-Bags/M/B000HAAAKI.htm More recently, coca has been reintroduced to the U.S. as a flavoring agent in the herbal liquer Agwa. Coca Leaf Tea is also currently for sale on Amazon.com through an independent distributor.

No. I was told that under no circumstances could I bring back any kind of coca products from Peru. I saw some people with just ordinary Delisse teas (manzanilla, anis, etc.) and they were having their luggage searched. When you step off the plane, you can buy mate de coca at the airport in Peru, but you can't bring it back, no sirree. I'd have brought some back (coca leaves helped me through my altitude sickness) but I didn't want to have to throw them out just to get on the plane. And I got dragged into agricultural customs and I got my bags searched as it was. Even without the coca. So, no, much as I'd love a good mate de coca, it's illegal and you'll probably just have to leave it in Peru.

They removed the "coke" from the coca cola many many years ago
In the original formula, the natural cocaine content of the coca leaves, and caffeine from kola nuts, provided the drink's stimulant effect. Shortly after the turn of the century, cocaine was removed from the coca leaves by processing (leaving a physiologically insignificant trace), and the amount of caffeine was reduced. The company's web site states on this issue that "Coca-Cola does not contain cocaine or any other harmful substance, and cocaine has never been an added ingredient for Coca-Cola". It should be noted that such a statement is entirely consistent with the presence of cocaine in the coca leaves in the original formulation.
