Well, one reason is because it is a MAJOR health hazord!! It melts your brain and causes you to act in ways that you would (hopefully) not normally act! You can have memory problems, learning disabilities, distorted perception, loss of coordination, increased heart rate, heart attack, respiratory diseases, lung cancer, and decreased immune system leading to infections of all sorts and tumors. There are many more effects and downsides to marijuana including physical, mental, and social problems which you can look up. But I do not think you will because I see that you are ignorant asking this question in the first place. You are probably a potthead, so hey, why would you change even when your life is at risk? You have NO IDEA how selfish you are when you are taking a perfectly healthy body and trashing it with drugs and alcohol. Some people would give anything just to be healthy.

In the long term, there is no downside to legalizing marijuana. It'll get in the society and all will be peachy.

However, in the short run, people will tend to overdo things, and it could get very dicey as this runs rampant. I would not enjoy packs of people walking around smoking in public places, and then when asked to move, reply, 'But it isn't illegal.' I would not like people heading to high stress jobs (surgery, construction, dangerous jobs) with contact highs.
I've already had that thrown at me from skateboarders using my driveway as a new skate park, putting ruts and such in it. When asked to leave, they reply, 'It's not illegal.'

Whiney is right! There are lots of good reasons to legalize it. One of the best reasons is that a hemp is a far superior, more renewable, and more environmentally friendly source of paper, rope, clothing, and many other products. But, there are people who are making too much money by keeping it illegal, and that is the only reason that is still is. Greed! *sm*

If we did there will be more tourism from all other countries which would incress terroism and there would be more accidents due to it.

But i have heard rumors that Marlboro is coming out with a legal marijuana product

I really don't feel like walking through streets seeing bunch of kids red eyed smoking pot on street 10 in morning.

There is some benefit without a doubt on legalization, but I don't think its worth lost of sanity and productivity.

Of coures they can we had it on the ballot three times in Nevada (actual legalization for recreational use) people just keep voting it down. I think the people who wanted it legalized forgot some how to vote on it.

because US government can't tax it...it's so easy to grow it. if it was legal, majority of people would grow their own plants and not buy any from the places that would sell marijuana legally.

It is against federal law and probably will remain so. Denver , Colo made it legal, but they are still trumped by state and federal law.

I am not for making it legal! I have seen too many dopeheads!

Because they want to distract us from the war, so they make things that should be legal illegal.

Gay marriage
Marijuana
Immigrants

Those are a few.

i would rather them legalize marijuana and make alcohol illegal...pot does a lot less damage. alcohol deaths are thousands per week, pot deaths none.

on a lighter note: have you ever heard of someone smoking pot going out and racing around, heck no they stay home and each nachos watching cartoons.
