I don't know who I respect more. Lawyers, I think, have the harder road. They're stereotyped as money-sucking leeches. Imagine trying to overcome that prejudice everyday. What's more, lawyers are paid on a case-by-case basis, no? (I'm not an attorney or anything, so I really don't know). No cases, no pay. No pay, no food. At that point, a law degree is about as much use as a BA in basket weaving.

Doctors, on the either hand, are more than recompensed for their work. They save lives! They work hard! And look at the long hours they put in, before, during, and after med school! We respect doctors for that.

But think about it. Doctors are all about knowing the symptoms and how to respond to illnesses. It's like being a car mechanic, except you've got one heck of a complicated car to understand. In other words, memorization. A legal career pits you against human minds, most of which are working for their own intents and purposes, regardless of the morality of their stance.

The score so far...

Doctors: 4
Lawyers: 0

*Sigh* Maybe I shouldn't go to law school after all.

I respect each individual or not,
depending on their individual qualities.
Not all lawyers or all doctors are one thing or the other.

Stereotyping people into labels and categories, and then judging them is invalid.

I respect the both professions, but not the professionals of to days !
I respect the professions because these two, if practiced as per thesis of its' preambles, can make society most humanistic, valuing the morality.
I don't respect to days professionals (baring a few who are committed to the profession in true sense) because they have ignored the professionalism in totality for the shake of the luxurious living and quest of earning more & more money. I suggest that they must earn from the profession to lead a comfortable living, to standby to people in the time of the need. For this the educating institutions are also to restict the cost of study to the required infrastructural limits instead making the institutions a busuness centre.

I'll respect a good lawyer that stakes his reputation to challenge injustice and a dedicated doctor that save lives, not someone who became a lawyer or doctor because of the money and prestige associated with the profession.

Hey..

u urself sound biased towards lawyers...

I personally respect doctors more as they r into a noble profession. They need to deal with emergencies, people's lives and run the risk of getting diseases themselves while dealing with patients.

Lawyers on the other hand often fight false cases as well... and its more technical - u shud know the law, read ur books, memorise everything n then twist it to suit ur case... so lots of manipulation. its a great job.. n society wudnt b what it is without them..

But i personally respect a doc more who deals with all kinds of problems.. emergencies, fatal diseases, dejected patients n their families... very difficult!

I respect people based on their actions. A chosen profession does not ensure ethical conduct in relation to others.

When you need a lawyer you are generally better off if in fact he/she is a snake in the grass, In my opinion.
With a doctor you always want the best mankind has to offer.
So my answer is Doctor.

Doctors save lives? What a joke! The nurses are the ones who keep you alive. Doctors repeaptedly make misdiagnosises and lazy diagnosises. If you aren't afflicted with something really common they are lost. People with rare diseases frequently spend years going to several different doctors before they finally learn what is wrong with them.

Doctors have one goal...to improve live...no matter what.
Lawyers also have one goal....to win....no matter what!

Unlike doctors, lawyers have the freedom to achieve their goals by deception and fraud.....and they tend to use both!
