The only burger I've ever obsessed about didn't come from a restaurant. It was made by a guy named John at the park...pure ground chuck, drenched in Tabasco w/ onions and bread crumbs mixed in - pineapple chunks pushed deep into the meat for moisture, wrapped in bacon and perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper. Charcoal-grilled.
If we're purely on the subject of fast food burgers, In & Out is damn good, but if we're on restaurants, then yeah, Red Robin, Ruby Tuesday's or Fudd Ruckers is amaaaazing.

I adore the Black Anus from Burger King. It is awesome and I kind of like it a bit better than the Whopper which in fact used to be my #1 burger compared to the McDonald's Quarter Pounder with cheese. It's a much better burger in size and quality. Besides, Black Anus meat is better than regular ground beef.
Another place for good burgers is also those Greek restaurants, they sure know how to grill them up. I like "Big Nick's" at Big Nick's Burger Joint 212-362-9238 • 2173 Broadway, New York,NY 10024 . Around the Beekman Theater area. Open 24hrs. My favorites there is the Ostrich burger and the Turkey Sumo burger which is over a 1lb. of meat. Nice with the tall glass of Budweiser...

That's a toughie. They're all pretty lame. I make it a practice to never get a hamburger from a place that refuses to make it medium-rare. Tells you about their cleanliness practices (or about how many other people handle that meat who the restaurant won't vouch for)!

Fuddrucker's for sit down burger experience. Awesome quality beef and a moderate price.
In-N-Out for old style like McDonald's USED to make burgers traditional fast food experience fresh hot and no huge complicated menu BS.
Red Robin for a good burger with bottomless french fries in a restaurant with table service.

Nothing beats an In N Out burger Animal Style. If you haven't had one, I suggest you get on the next plane to California and get one! You won't find a more fresh and delicious fast food burger anywhere else in the World.
