The little things are what matter most. For example, if you see someone drop a bunch of papers, help them pick them up. Or hold a door open for someone who is behind you. If you're in line at the grocery store and the person behind you has only a few items and you've got about a million, let them go ahead of you. These are just a few examples of simple acts of kindness that can go a long way.

Smile at someone while shopping or out walking. Open a door for somebody. Say "excuse me" when you walk in front of a person. Always look for opportunities to make your people enounters positive. Another really good thing is to read to someone in a nursing home. Just 1 hour a week would really make such a difference to that person. Try some of this stuff. It makes you feel really cool inside also.

I work at a nursing home. Many of my residents don't have family that care to come see them anymore.
They spend their days alone and watching TV.

I do the Activities at a small home of 45 residents. I am always happy to have volunteers.

I ask little of them maybe to sit and visit or perhaps to help them with letter writing or even helping them find the right numbers on their bingo cards.

They will ask little of you for what you get in return. They just don't want to be forgotten. Even an hour a month will bring change and happiness to their lives. As well as yours.

Give an unexpected ( & deserved) compliment . Help a stranger in need. On a larger level? Try this : Kiva .org http://www.kiva.org/ Do-it-yourself microcredit . Watch the Nicholas Kristoff video ( on left ) for short explanation of it . (as little $5 can go a long way ;D)

Sign up for a "Habitat for Humanity" shift. My husband and I did our first shift last weekend. It was so cool to put nails into boards that would be there as long as the house! I can't explain it, really. Then there was the nice, hardworking lady w/3 kids who will live in this house.....she was working side by side, as she does every shift. It's awesome to know that you're helping someone who really is trying their best to get on in life.......

Call Habitat for Humanity and see what's going up in your area, ways to get involved. It's not that you'll feel "good" about yourself, necessarily, it's more like you'll feel better about people in general. :)

Good luck!!!!

P.s. Go and THUMBS UP people who give even reasonably decent answers--like I just DID. :P Easy-smeasy.

Yesterday, on my way to my son's baseball game, I stopped to get a bottle of Diet Coke and almost grabbed a Cherry Coke because I wasn't paying attention. I put it back and then remembered that the president of the League is always having someone run to get him a Cherry Coke because they don't have any at concessions. I decided to get him one so, I took it to him and he said that something that simple made his entire day. He was coming down the steps on his way to ask someone to run out and get one for him. Even though the actual gesture was quite small, it symbolized something much greater and quite rewarding to know that I was able to make someone else's day easier.

Nice, new underwear. Seriously, does wonders when I'm in a slump. But for others, spend time with them, friendly calls, the little things mean the most when you're down.

I have never been interested in helping people, except those to whom I gave birth. There's too many people and organizations running around helping people who would probably be better off with a little less help.

I help animals, the only truly deserving creatures, and by animals I mean all living creatures, excepting people. That makes me feel better about myself.

Anything with someone else at heart rather than yourself.

Give someone a smile, give them room to walk past you, donate to a charity, help someone who looks like they are in a difficult situation etc.

All very easy things to do, most people still do not though.

Assist them whenever you can...

Give them time when needed someone.

Give them importance.

Be a listening ear, a crying shoulder, a pampering arm, the tactful & passionate lips, and a watchful eye for them.

& lastly, be yourself.
