... I want to buy new graphic cards for my pc. I am bit confused between Nvidia 8600 gt and 7600g 256 mb pci express graphic cards.. i know performance of 7600gt is better then then 8600gt...
because of its better engine clock and memory clock . but 8600gt is with direct x 10 and 7600gt is with direct x 9. does it make any Differance. i will not be able to play direct x 10 games on my 7600 gt . i am using vista ultimate. i want the graphic card only for gaming...

No worries

DX has 2 layers that are transparent to the coder and the player, HAL and HEL. The Hardware abstraction layer(HAL) directly calls the hardware functions that your card supports. The Hardware Emulation Layer uses the CPU to do the stuff that the card does not support. If the DX9 card is that much faster than the DX10 card, and you have a robust enough CPU then the DX9 card may be a better choice, as all you should have to do is install the DX10 runtime to use it. The DX9 card may beable to out run the DX10 card, even using software for some small functions. Enough about DX and speed possibilities(that you have no way on telling without a benchmark), you have a bigger problem to consider.

Are the cards Vista compatable? You may need to find some drivers(i hate OS upgrade time) For this reason, I would suggest the most rescient card(as it is more likely to have vista drivers available)

Be certain your game isn't direct x dependant. I say go with the 7600gt. Or an alternate is the ATI- RADEON CrossFire Edition X1950, It is spendy but if you have an AMD processor it will work seamlessly. Intel will not be quite as effiecient. This card was designed for AMD.

I would shell out the money and get 8600, DX 10 is going to be needed soon for some of the newer games.
