I Hired an an entertainer for a party. They drove up to my house, and advied me that I need to pay them upfront. Which I did. They circled the parking lot and left with my money. I have been calling them for over a month and I get excuse after excuse.

Have a friend hire them and when they show up at your friends house DEMAND YOUR MONEY. You may need to invoke a lil motivation for them to repay you....like a baseball bat, hit the first one upside the head and watch how quick the rest pay up......with interrest

I see three options. The first is to take it to small claims court, to get your money back. The second is to threaten to go to the police, as what they perpertrated was a fraud. They collected the money with no intention of going through with the contract. The second option might get a quicker response, as not many are willing to muck around where the police are involved. Your choice. The third contact the Consumer Affairs Department, and see if they can follow it up for you.
Either way you choose to go, make sure you have witnesses that they didn't do what they were supposed to, and any costs incurred because of their no-show.

What a grimey person. Depending on what kind of "entertainer" this was try to contact the Better Business Bureau. If al else fails as I have learned in the past. The best lesson learned is a bought lesson. NEVER, NEVER pay anyone upfront. Not even your FAMILY!!!!!!!!

If you know where they live or work at then it is time to call in a few friends to back you up and go down there to get it back and show him that he can't get away with it.

Failing that one get one of your friends to book it again at another address and you all wait for him to arrive, ask him in so you can pay and then confront this issue with all your friends support.
I am sure that after this he will pay up---try to book it later in the day so he is lightly to have cash on him from previous jobs earlier that day.
Caution though don't try this on your own!

Hi there Space, Unless you have proof that you hired the entertainer, and that they took your money without doing their job. there isn't anything that the law can do to help you. Coventy7uk seems to have the right idea. But I wouldn't condone violence...this will lead to more trouble! But it may be an idea to get one of your friends to hire the entertainer. Then make sure you have a couple of friends who could wait by his car, and a couple to help restrain him. State that you simply want your money back and no more. Make note of his car registration, so that you can inform the police of his underhand 'business transactions.' I would be interested to know how you get on! :o)

it all depends how far you are prepared to go with it!! next time when you speak, tell them you are seeking advice, to recover all outstanding money, hopefully this will make them think twice and return your cash, if not then take them to a small claims court, but without any verbal or written contract, i doubt you will succeed

contact the better business bureau and go to small claims court in your area or where the thieves do business look on their business card if you have one. go to the court and file a claim for about 50. and see them in court. of course you'd have to serve them by person or certified mail. good luck
