With my husband deployed, his truck sits more than it is driven and where it is parked is under a lamp post where it becomes target practice for bird poop. Aesthetically I'm not really concerned with it, since I barely drive it and it needs a good detailing anyway before he gets home, but is it going to severely damage the paint if I leave it go a few weeks at a time?

Yes any type of bug or animal dropping on your car is bad for the paint job. It has an acid and over time if not cleaned off regularly (like more than once a week) it will damage the paint job. I live in an area that at this time of year is smothered by love bugs, and well driving around there guts end up all over my car and well I have left them there for just about a week and well I went to clean them off and noticed the paint started to chip away in those areas. Of course for bird poop it'd take longer before the paint started to chip away but eventually it will happen.

Acid in the poop is really bad for the paint.
One more thing, you said your husband "deployed." Is he in the Army? Do you want an Army man's truck to be covered with poop all the time? Hey, the man is serving our country! Keep his truck clean!

The sun will bake the poo and mess the paint up. Either take it for a drive and run it through the carwash once a week or cover it up. Covering it would aslo prevent other things. That might be the best thing.

It is bad. When I was a kid we had to clean the farm equipment if the pigeons dropped on it. If we didn't, it would (over time) eat through the paint and then the metal would rust. It is my understanding that some bird droppings are worse than others in thsi respect.

fowl poop has ammonia in it, that's incredibly undesirable for paint jobs. although, in case you reside in a temperate environment, the rain will maximum probable wash maximum of it off. in case you reside in a ordinarily sunny area like San Diego or the someplace in the South West, you would be able to intend to make particular you get it off as quickly as you may.

You will get permanent damage. Black won't be black anymore-it will have a whitish hue to it when looking at the spot from an angle. It takes less than a week for the damage to become noticeable.

its going to mess it up. Everytime u see a new poop in the car, get a wet rag and wipe it or it will eat out the paint.

If it's got a good coat of wax, maybe not.

Get a car cover.

Although, a truck that isn't weatherbeaten isn't a proper truck, IMO.

Yes it will.
The poop is acidic and will blemish the paint.
