Yes fighting CAN be part of the game depending on teams (rivals) and tempers. You will receive a penalty - most of the time it's 5 mins. Some times you will be tossed from game - you get 5 mins and a game for that. If you receive a DQ (disqualification) you will have to sit your next scheduled game. The refs usually will not try to break up a fight until the players hit the ice or actually get tired (seen that happen in several of my teams' games). Most refs are normal sized men and most hockey players are bigger - at least in mens leagues. Hope that helps.

Well, as the old saying goes, "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out..."
It's still part of the game...for now, anyways.

Of course you can fight in hockey! Why else would you want to watch? The only thing is that it's starting to get restricted, and that's why some of the NHL's most loveable tough guys have retired (Tie Domi, for example).

Yes, fighting is an acceptable, but sometimes brutal part of the game. Half of the people who like hockey go to it for the fights, the other half believe it has no place. The answer lies somewhere in between, but yes, it is sometimes acceptable to fight in hockey.

That is the only reason I watch hockey! To see the fights. Part of the game.

fighting is a big part in hockey....
if you get into a fight and you win your fight, the other team will be scared of you. they will keep their distance from you, thus giving you space to work with....
refs do not do anything because they do not want to risk any injury on themselves......Hockey players tend to be big, strong, and agressive....the refs just wait untill they wear themselves out or untill they fall to the ground....

They don't want to get decked. The refs break it up usually when one guy goes down or if they take to long.
