The easy answer? After what happened with Geraldine Ferraro, there just hasn't been anyone with the grit to run and test the American bias towards women in government. Until now that is. I can think of several women who might have made great Presidents had they had the guts and the desire to deal with all the mess that comes with it. Hillary is now the test for a nation full of women. The good news is that they can vote for her based on her qualifications, intelligence and tough hide vs. the simple fact that she's female and it's about time. I stand in support of Hillary, but I reject voting for her simply because she is a woman. There are 90 women now serving in Congress and one of them is two heartbeats away from the Presidency. They are all watching Hillary's progress and campaign with much interest, no matter what they personally think of her. I would think there are more than one of them who could envision running for the Presidency in the future, especially after seeing how successful Hillary has been, whether she gets elected or not.

The democrats think she is the one to beat the republicans and they are trying to get the women voters to vote for her.
Women's' rights groups have been demanding a woman candidate for many years and now they have a chance to elect a woman president based entirely on gender and not issues.
Hillary supports same sex marriage, but won't comment on gun control and your right to own a gun even though she wants to reinstate Bill's ban and more.
They also want to raise taxes and repeal all the tax breaks like the child tax credit that a lot of people got.
However, the election may be a moot point if we have another terrorist attack or a major disaster before the elections.
Early in May,George Bush signed an executive order for the continuation of government in such an event.
FEMA will take over with the president and vice-president directing them. Congress and the Supreme Court will still exist, but will have little to say. The president has the final word on all matters, the constitution will be suspended and martial law will be imposed nationwide. Zero tolerance for crime and if you are arrested for anything and you resist, you will be shot on the spot. The same applies if anything happens after a new president takes office unless the order is rescinded.

Because she's the only one with the connections to raise tons of money. It's all about how many people you as a candidate can get to believe in you. Some people believe she can actually win.

I think Oprah would have a chance as a woman, but she isn't interested, and I don't know how she would fare in a debate.

The question should be-- "Why is Hillary Clinton a Presidential candidate?"

Because she's the only one with all that money backing her--from BOTH sides. It also helps that she has really thick skin--Americans politics is even more brutal on women.

because she is the only female in politics that knows what she is doing...but I have a feeling Gore is going to run at the last mintue and then he will take her as vice president..there is no way the US people will allow a female to be president before a female is vice president...The US is all about baby steps...very tiny baby steps.

Because most women have sense enough to know that it's a man's job.

I agree with jt114881.

Also because other women don't want to embarrass themselves on trying to become president.
