Now, ethyl alcohol is a kind of alcohol with an ethane functional group attached to a hydroxide ion. It is oftentimes called ethanol, its IUPAC name.
which other alcohol are you talking about? assuming you are thinking of the common household item, the rubbing alcohol, well they are not the same. See, rubbing alcohol is most of the time Isopropyl alcohol, meaning it is propane with a hydroxide (OH) ion attached to the number two carbon.

If you are talking about this alcohol, then they are not the same. They have different melting point, boiling point, molecular weight. etc.

The weird thing is that I saw a rubbing alcohol with ethyl alcohol 70% as its contents.

Ethyl alcohol is sometimes referred to as "alcohol", just as sucrose is often referred to as "sugar". Ethyl alcohol is a specific alcohol in a class of organic compounds called alcohols (organic molecules having the -OH group in their structure). Sucrose is the sugar that people think of first, but sugars are a class of related organic molecules; most are sweet, but some, like lactose, are not very sweet at all.
Ethyl alcohol is the only alcohol that many people are familiar with. This can lead to death because other alcohols are extremely toxic, like methyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, etc.
