Every 3 months unless I have a cold or the flu. Then more often. My Dentist said to throw away your old toothbrush once you get over being sick with a cold or flu bug.

Every time I get my teeth cleaned, which is every 4 months give or take a couple of weeks. My dentist gives me a new toothbrush every time I am there, which makes it easy to do the switch to a new one.

When the bristles tend to fray out is a good time to replace. I usually like to change mine about every three months. However, anytime you have a virus like strep throat, etc you should replace your toothbrush to prevent recurring illnesses.

Alot my 2 year old son likes to climb and play in the toilet so if I see my toothbrush out of place it goes straight to the trash so I try to be stocked up ahead of time.
