Often they will lay down an area of web that they crawl onto in preparation to shed. It's important not to touch, disturb or feed them once the process has started and for several days after. The new exoskeletion takes a few days to harden. Males tend to have smaller abdomens the females but the best way to determine gender is to save the moutled skin and bring it to someone experienced with spiders.
The moult will contain the shed skin from the sexual organs.

They stop eating for a day or two before they molt. Once you know for sure that it is molting make sure there is no bugs, crickets etc., in its cage because the tarantula can be killed by these due to the weakness they go through with the process. Wait a couple of days to make sure it has recuperated, it takes alot from them. My tarantula just molted a couple of weeks ago! I read alot of information because I freaked out when I saw it on its back. I read somewhere that males will have small fangs on the first set on front legs about mid leg.

I hope you mean molting, because if it's starting to mold it's dead. All things that molt will slow down and not eat for the day or so before. Once it's done it'll take a day or so to relax and then it'll be back to normal. Girls are bigger then boys, so compair it to some others who are the same age and from the same breeder.
