In the countries which have socialized health care the people pay for it dearly in taxes. I had occasion to visit several doctors in Denmark (also socialized medicine) and the doctors were terribly ineffective. America is not only screwed up in health care but in education, immigration, politics in general, medicine (drugs) and court system. There are other topics that are screwed up but I do not have the time to list them all. What in the world has happened to America?????

Because the industry is tampered with by both the government and unneccesary civil and public liabilities. It is nearly impossible to go into practice for yourself like many doctors did in the 90's and 80's. Hospitals go bankrupt for attempting to handle medicaid patients and what is worst the government pays subpar rates for treating these people. I mean you have people taking their children to the emergency room for a ear infection because they are on medicaid. The system needs a clean up because we spend more money on healthcare than any other country and we are not healthier for it. There is the arguement though, I have health insurance and I am guaranteed the best treatment money can buy without loosing everything I own.

You forgot to mention France and German, countries that are currently privatizing because they can no longer afford "universal" health insurance. How about Canada? Many Canadians seek health care, especially surgery, in the US because they cannot wait for the Canadian Health Care system.

Government interference, and trial lawyers, have made our health care system what it is today. In spite of the fact that it is screwed up, it's still better then anything else going. That will change for the worse if we allow our health care system to be further improved by more government meddling.

The simple answer requires only ONE word: Democrats

The democrat party wants to give away entitlements. Thats welfare, etc... and when that doesn't solve problems what do they want to do? Increase taxes and give away MORE entitlements. Currently 5/7 of ALL money paid to the treasury (i'm talking about TAX dollars here, YOUR tax dollars) is spent on GOVERNMETN HAND OUTS. I'm referring to healthcare, welfare, social security... you get the idea.

What would really ruin this country is Universal health care. Why? It takes market forces out of the of the picture. If the government is the one in charge of providing health care for you, there is NO incentive to keep the cost of health care low. There would be NO COMPETITION!!! Its essentially nationalizing an entire industry. Terrible!! Capitalism is proven to work best here.

What needs to happen is health care only be provided to a minimum people who genuinely need it, and there must be strict guidelines. There need to be incentives for people to purchase their OWN healhtcare.

Health care isn't screwed up. We have one of the best healthcare systems in the world. Is it a perfect system? No. But it's still an excellent system.

It's the people who are bad.

Yea,. maybe the government should just take all our pay checks.

Then some bureaucrat could decide where we live, how much and what we should eat and what kind of car we should drive.

Another government department would decide what we should do for entertainment.

That way, the government would provide everything we need to us, we wouldn't be responsible for providing anything.

Aftew all, why should rich people get to live in a better house than poor people do ?

Why should rich people get to drive better cars than poor people.

Why should rich people get to eat better food than poor people.

Why should rich people get to go clubbing more than poor people.

Darnit, it's just not fair !!!!!!!!

Sure we could improve things, but making health care free is not one of them. At least, not at this time.

One of the things that makes the USA great is that people have to work and earn their living, not suck the living out of others.

Because the insurance companies want to keep it that way because they are part of "corporate America." They will fight universal healthcare tooth and nail to make sure they can continue profiting from their billion dollar industry while leaving financially challenged Americans to rot, literally!

Because if it isn't for you it must be ignored. Most Republicans already have health care and they don't care if you have it or not. If this was a true Christian country, everybody would have health care. They always make it so hard, why not pay everyone a good wage, make the companies provide health insurance. If they are so against a national health care plan this would work. But they are greedy and greed fosters hatred.

because drug companies control the FDA. They have had the laws changed so that you cant sue a drug company when the FDA approves the drug. So all the people in the future that get a Vioxx heart attack cant sue.
The drug companies also control the medical literature. So that doctors only get information about the medicines they want them know about.
