the only way to sex bala sharks is the fact that females are a little plumper during breeding season. for angelfish people say the angle of the anal fin in relation to the belly of the angelfish, will identify the sex and some say that some male angels may have a hump on the crown and some may be larger than the females. for the gouramis the males are usually smaller and a little thinner than the females thats one way to sex gouramis the easier way is by the dorsal fin the females is short and rounded, while the male has a longer dorsal that comes to a point. and the sexing techniques only work with mature fish because younger ones are still developing. hope this helps

It depends on the species of fish whether or not you can tell a male or female easily. Bettas, guppies, and swordtails are easy to tell apart. The male bettas and guppies have pretty colors and flowing fins, the male swordtails have the tail that looks like a sword which is where they get the name. The females of all 3 species are pretty plain, without all the flowing fins and bright colors.
A fish's sex organs are normally located underneath the fish before the tail. They are not visible unless it's time to mate, and most of the time they're not visible even then.

Different type of fish, different ways to tell. On a guppy, the tail is bigger on a male, and he has a top flow fin on top of his head. On micky mouse platties, the tail on a female in mostly straight, or cornered up, a male's is flowed out, but not flowy, if you know what I mean. On a betta, the male is bigger, more fin and flow, and aggresive, mostly. A female doesn't have as much fin, and isn't as big. If you have anymore questions on other fish, e-mail me.

How you can tell depends on the type of fish. Very few have external sex organs that can be used to identify the sex of the fish. Usually it's done by coloration, size or other factors. If you have a specific type of fish in mind add that to your question and we can tell you based on your fish.

It depends on the fish. I know this may shock some people ;) but there actually is more than 1 species of fish. Is there a specific species of fish you are trying to sex? If so then let us know and hopefully it is a fish that is possible to sex.
