You could be describing one of two scenarios with very different implications:
1) You wrote an e-mail using Yahoo's webmail client while on the computer at work, and the employer's monitoring software picked it up (probably by capturing your keystrokes or a screenshot). This is probably legal (though I am not a lawyer and you should not interpret my answer as legal advice), since an employer has the right to monitor all uses of his property (computer equipment and networks). Some employers disclose what they monitor, though they may not be legally obligated to.
2) You logged onto Yahoo at work, and the monitoring software captured your password. Then the technician used the password to break into your Yahoo account and print out your mail. This is probably not legal, but you can easily guard against future occurrences by changing your password (away from work) and not logging into Yahoo from work.

It sounds like if the emails were sent to an email address provided by the employer that the employer hasd every right to check up on what is being sent to and from his email addresses. It's a question of ownership of the account and he owns it, so he has every right to look at it. It's the same thing with regular mail. If you were to send her letters adderessed to her at the company then as soon as the post office delivers it to the address then the employer or anybody can open it and you have no grounds for complaint. The only time mail fraud or tampering would apply in a case like this is if the letters were intercepted before they reached the delivery address.

Yes it's legal. You should not be using the business computer for personal business.

Sorry, anything you do on a company computer is subject to company scrutiny. I'm surprised they even let you access personal email accounts - many companies don't.
Always assume EVERYTHING you do on a company computer is being watched.

work computers and work time are for that--work. They own the equipment and they own you from 9 to 5. Yes it is legal.
That's why they call it work.

Basically anything that you do with their equipment is within their jurisdiction. However, your home PC is your business. In other words don't access your personal email at work if that concerns you.

Where I used to work they blocked all "webmail" and "IM" accounts. They also blocked e-bay and other websites that people use to goof off.
