A negative number squared is positive.

You have to first do the exponent then
multiply according to the order of operations:

-(-2)² =
-((-2)(-2))
The negative sign in front of the x^2 makes the 4 negative
-(4)
-4

From the way you have it typed out, the equation would be -(-2)^2, so the answer would be -4.

However, check to make sure that you did not mean (-x)^2, which would equal 4
