I dont want to give them to a charity who turns around and sells them. I would like them to go directly to people who need them.

There is most likely a homeless shelter near where you live...they give them to folks who need them without "selling" them and also "safe" houses for battered women...lots of times these women have to leave their homes in a hurry to escape abuse with nothing but the clothes on their backs...check the yellow pages or call a hot line or church...they can connect you

I have found the most rewarding is taking them directly to families that need them. I have taken things to a organization, that put me in touch directly with refugees. I met with about 15 different families, and got friends and coworkers to donate to these families. They came here with basically the clothes on their backs. They were so appreciative, and it was really needed. I have given in the past and it went up going to people that really didnt need it, but they just wanted it. So do some research, before donating.

locate your local battered womens shelter, you have a good heart! Some times these women leave (escape) with only the clothes on their back. Another idea is your local chapter of the Red Cross, with hurricane season and all this crazy weather we are having, someone who has lost it all in a storm or even a fire could benefit from your generous donations

The "Soup kitchen" may be a good place to start. The less fortunate arent that hard to find in our area so normally I just give the clothes to them, but some are apprehensive about doing this.

there is a group on yahoo, it's called FREECYCLE search for you location. it's a very nice site, you offer what you want to get rid of, and if you need something, there is usually somebody willing to give away. I use this site becuase I don't want stuff that is nice and can still be used, to end up in the Landfills.

i think local churches would be a good place, or shelters. in my neighborhood, we had an elderly home that sold used clothes at a low cost, lower usually than the salvation army. and it was nice to give to them because all the money they recieved went to funding improvements for their nursing home, and for trips for them. so it was like doing to good deeds in one. hope this helped!

I wouldn't know since when I get rid of clothes they aren't even fit for rags but my daughter takes all of hers and her kids to a church. I found out they will be distributed to who really does need them.

There are places that give clothes to under privileged women starting jobs and places that give clothes to kids when school is starting. I'm not sure what these places are called though. Sorry I cant be of more assistance.

Check with your local fire station and let them suggest a charity to help fire victims . Those families are always in dire need .
