I don't completely understand the question but if you're asking who was the most respected player in NBA history I think you would be hard pressed to find a more revered starting player in history than Bill Russell. He earned the respect of his peers, was a team captain to the greatest run by a team in the history of almost any sport, was a leader in the civil rights movement and revered enough by Red Auerbach to take over his coaching duties...as the first black head NBA coach.

I think the question is asking for a starting five, with each player being the most "respected" player ever at his position.
It's of course, impossible to answer, especially since the word "respect" has lost all meaning when it comes to sports.
I would take "respect" to mean respect from fellow players...teammates and opponents...along with a major "fear" of having to face a particular player on the court.
Today, if I say that Tim Duncan is better than Ben Wallace, all of a sudden, I'm "disrespecting" Wallace. If I say that Lebron James is better than Carmello Anthony, I'm "disrespecting" Anthony. In reality, of course, it doesn't mean I don't respect Wallace or Anthony to make those statements, but that's how "respect" is used these days.
Centers would have to be Russell, Wilt and Kareem...not only did they accomplish more than any other centers in history, but they also each took strong, and sometimes controversial, political stands on issues. You knew where each of those guys stood on any issue. Michael Jordan, for example, never took a stand on anything, because his marketers wouldn't let him.
So those 3 guys would be your centers...(if I had to choose one, it would be Russell, because he flat out never cared what ANYONE thought of him).
Willis Reed, Nate Thurmond, Dave Cowens, Wes Unseld, Olajuown, Ewing, Shaq, David Robinson and Robert Parrish would be among the most highly respected centers ever as well. So, in fact, would George Mikan.
Larry Bird is the most respected forward ever to play the game...and in terms of respect from contemporaries, Tim Duncan would be way up there as well, at the forward position. Others would include Bob Pettit, Elgin Baylor, Karl Malone, Dave Debusschere and John Havlicek.
Guards would include Magic, Michael, Oscar, Stockton and Jerry West... and certainly anyone who ever had to go against Walt Frazier or Earl Monroe would know that they were in for a long night.
Again, it's impossible to answer...there's respect from your peers (i.e. other players); there's respect from the media...threre's respect from casual fans..there's respect from knowledgeable fans... there's all kinds of "respect" going on out there...depends which one you're talking about.
Do fans respect Duncan? No, not really... do the players in the NBA who have to face him on the court respect him? ... "dang" right they do! I'm sure Zdrunis Ilgauskas could think of a few hundred things he'd rather be doing than trying to stop Tim Duncan...

my concepts are that the same issues you used to coach russell replaced into greater advantageous than Jordan and the Goat you at the instant are using to coach that he's not the goat. you have severe case of bipolar. submit to in concepts Russell is the only individual who stayed on those Celtics and gained 11 jewelry. He on no account lost interior the finals and took his team to a championship the subsequent 12 months and many years after that. OVER RATED Jordan hater, you basically have been given OWNED by technique of the guy below ME...MY KILL.. I understand your attempting to apply bill Russell in some extraordinary thank you to lift Pippen as a effect putting Jordan down greater in some twisted way. Your hate for Jordan has reached a clean point. Now your attempting to tackle battles you won't be in a position to win just to coach Jordan is overvalued.. shop on with that concept. don't get into the greats of the 60's.
