I think that sending "Thank You" cards is LAME! I do not understand why someone would expect one when they give a present. Why do you not just give a present without wanting a reward, like it's a good deed.
My problem is that I just found the stack of T.Y. cards from my baby shower 4 months ago. OOPS! The lady who threw the baby shower had everyone address their oun thank you envelope at the shower so then I was obligated to send them. But i do not like them. I do not expect them when I give a gift.
So, should I throw them away or send them really late. I sure that I have allready offended people by now.

Ok I know I mispelled and left out a word or two, but you get the point.

I am totally with you on this one. "Thank You" cards take away gift's purpose/ Actually, I have never even knew these cards even exist until I moved to States. There is no such thing as Thank You cards in Europe. When I first learned about them here, I thought the whole idea is just pretty lame/ Same with sending these cards after the job interview. Isn;t it just the interviewer job to interview you and that is what he is already getting paid for. I never get the reason for having to send the Thank You card for that either.

It is in good taste to recognize some one giving you a gift.
It seems from the responses this question generated, that we've become a society of ill mannered, self centered brats. When the gift well runs dry, don't be surprised.
The effort it takes to sign a few cards is less than the effort you just took to b i t c h about having to sign them. You are truly a no class slob.

You should send them anyway, even if you have a problem with it. It's rude not to. Those people took the time to come to your shower not to mention spending money to buy you a gift. All you have to do is put a few kind words on paper and mail it. Stop whining, get off P&S and mail the notes.

Don't send a thank you if you're not really thankful. That's silly. However, late is better than never.
Thank you cards are not expected, APPRECIATION is. Usually thank you cards express that appreciation, or gratitude. But you can show it in other ways if you wish.

If you feel that way, then don't send one. After all, the person only went out of their way to spend money on you, then send it to you. They also probably worked for the money to give you the gift. But, if that's not enough for you, then don't expect to get anymore gifts.

i think thank you cards are great. the person sending them feels better after sending a thank you card because it shows that they really did appreciate whatever they were invited too. that sounds confusing what i just wrote, even to me but what i'm trying to say is that thank you cards are good in a lot of ways but afterall, it is just one persons opinion.

it isn't lame, people like to know if you appreciated their gift, an sometimes, like a wedding or something, you wonder if they even got it, if you don't receive a card.
I would still send them. sure it's tedious, but so it going out, getting a present, wrapping it, and attending a shower. they showed you consideration, you should do the same in return.

I'm not with you. Whenever I want to let someone know my appreciation, if a thank-you card is the only way, so be it.
