Not even Nortons removel tool, will remove their garbage. You are left with 375 plus fragments of Nortons when if and when you can even begin to remove the file. The fragments are glued to all of your files, folders, registry key and hidden all over your system. Causes serious conflict.
Here is a free excellent software program I use as it will use brut force to delete a write protected file, dll, etc. etc.
http://www.download3k.com/Install-Delete-Doctor.html
Follow the instruction after you have installed and you will be able to remove Nortons.
Will give you some help., When Delete Doctor 2.1 is open you will see "browse", double click and open and look for your program files, when you see Norton, open the file, and continue to open all of Norton's files until you have the same icon that is on your monitor as this is the file you want to be installed into Delete Doctor. Now you want to check off, delete file with reboot of your pc. When you reboot, open start, type in: c://program files, click on browse and open your program files and look for Nortons. Delete the file.
There is still more, open start, open search files and type in, Norrtons, scan your pc and delete from the top down every file or associated file for Nortons. Do the same thing again, this time type in Symantec, and scan, delete from the top down. Now open start, run, and type in "regedit", don't include the quote marks, and click on ok. Open Hkey user, open software, and delete the registry key for Nortons or if it says Symantec as there will be no value.
Get rid of this garbage and use

Symantec Antivirus (norton) is almost impossible to remove and is very irritating. If it's not uninstalled right the first time you may never be able to get rid of it unless you reinsall Windows. You will need to go to add remove programs in your Control pannel. If you don't see add remove programs click Clasic View on the left. Now after it comes up look for anything thats symantic or Norton or Live update. After getting rid of all these things reboot and then remove the main part of Norton (will say something like NORTON 2003 or something) Once you remove norton you should never install any Symantic products again because they suck. Sorry but they do. Mcafee is not good either or PCcillin or Panda. The solution is easy!
Download and run the Norton Removal Tool from the Norton / Symantic website.
