Hi Katie, A 6" Goldfish will soon outgrow a 29 gallon tank so you might think about getting a bigger one now so you don't have the bother & expense of an upgrade a year or so down the line. The first link below tells you all about setting up a new tank, be sure to read it through including the cleaning & cycling sections.

Another good idea is to join one of the many Goldfish forums, that way if you have any problems you can get expert advice right away as well as asking about any ideas you have beforehand so you don't run into any problems-I've added a couple of good forums at the bottom.

fill the tank with regular tap water . turn on the filter . let the water sit for 3 days or buy some drops that help remove the chlorine in the water . after a few days the chlorine levels will be OK for the fish . now the water temp for the gold fish should be room temp or above that so get the temp around 75 or 80f . put the fish in a plastic bag let the bag float in the water for at least one hour then poke some holes in it wait another hour then open the bag and let the fish go in the tank .

The tank is not large enough for a 6' Gold fish.

Get it all set up (pump and all), use a product like Stress Coat and let it run for at least 24 hours.
