My car was doing the same thing and I was told that the tire was spilt from the inside. I only replaced that one tire and it stopped completely.

I couldn't see that my cheap tire was about to explode. My steering column vibrated really badly when I slowed down, wasn't so obvious when I went faster. It was only when the tire was taken off and checked that the pulling away was obvious. No wires sticking out, etc. Nothing could be seen visually.
Sorry, that is the reverse of your question. Still, have your tires looked at closely. You know, Firestone had that tire problem (defective tires leadng to blowouts a while back.). Get those tires all off and looked at closely. I am totally serious. I couldn't believe it when they showed me my tire. If they were not the experts, I wouldn't have noticed a thing. And when I got a new tire, the vibration in the steering wheel cleared right up.

Two things to check:
U-joints may be good but not properly centered in the yoke causing the drive shaft to vibrate.
Second there may be a damper on the steering gear in front. It will look like a shock mounted horizontally. If this is bad, the front wheels will shake at around 35 to 40 and will probably continue to do so until you are almost stopped.
You might want to have someone drive along side of you, as a passenger, to look for what is shaking.

Try running your spare tire, as long as it is balanced, in place of your other tires/wheels. Run it in place of each of your other tires for a few miles. You may find that one of your tires/wheels is the problem. When checking your u-joints, make sure they aren't under a load. You should be able to turn the driveshaft each way a little bit. If in has pressure on it, it won't turn any, and if a u-joint were bad, you wouldn't know. Also make sure the driveshaft isn't bent. The best way that I can think of is to jack the back wheels off the ground and let the engine idle in gear while watching the driveshaft. It should run smooth with no wobble at all. From my personal experience, it is getting harder and harder to get a good balance job on tires.

Could be a bad shock absorber or a tire or a couple tires with broken belts (from hitting potholes or curbs) but I have experienced a high speed sway/vibration on a vehicle with a bad set of rear shocks also did you have your drive shafts off recently before the vibration started? they have weights on them and putting the drive shaft back on improperly could throw the balance off and cause vibration

Unfortunately vibrations are process of elimination. The most common are tires out of balance.Take the suburban to a tire shop and have them checked for balance and being out of round. If they are good it could still be a number of things.Bad u-joints,driveline out of balance, any number of things.A trained mechanic would have to put it up on lift to check them.

where do you feel the vibration? Front, in the seat, steering wheel, etc? Did the mechanic look for dents in the drive shaft?

Is it a misfire? It may not be in the suspension at all. Also could be the drive shaft out of balance. Food for thought.

Why dont you take it to the people who work on them everyday. Call the chevy dealer. Good chance the shop foreman and you could go for a drive and he will know what the problem is.
