Well I'm a junior and I've been getting some college mail. Well before I know I even get it my stepmom opens and reads everybit of it.

I got a letter from this one college(which isn't atop of my list) and before I even get to read it my dad tells me to just throw it away cuz I'm not allowed to go there! Also THE college I most want to go to, Morehead State University, he says that I'm also no allowed to go there either!

I can already tell you that even if I get the slightest chance to go to Morehead State then thats where I'm going regardless of what he says.

What should I do? I'll be 18 in a year so can they even tell me where I'm allowed and not allowed to go to college? I think its some bullshit if you ask me!

It's a really good school. My uncle graduated there on his way to being a very sucessful judge that he is now. My cousin is going to be a sophomore there, my other cousin(my grade) plans on going there as well.

It's only about 2 hours north of here if that long.

If they are paying your tuition, they have the right to determine which college you attend. If you want to go to a particular school, move out of your parents house, get a job, and support yourself. You can't have it both ways. Your age has nothing to do with this. As long as you remain a dependent, you have no choice in this matter.

You can go to college wherever you like. You don't need your parents or stepparents permission. However, if you are going to go to college and expect them to help you pay for it, they do have a say in where you go. Your choice is to go where they want you to go for 2 years and take as many classes as you can to get the basics out of the way, then transfer to the school you want to attend, OR go where you like even if they don't approve.

I think it is time to tell them that you will go to college where YOU choose, find a job so you can save money to go and start applying for scholarships and student loans as soon as you start your senior year. Keep your grades up and you will be able to get a lot more help with school.

Talk to your parents tell them you would appreciate it, if they read your mail after you. I also have a junior in high school and we have to keep an eye on everything you all do, because believe it or not you guys still don't know what you are doing.
About the other, if you have money to pay for college and for your own apartment, or a full scholarship leave after 18. If you don't listen to your parents they probably want the best for you. You can always talk to them.

the right thing to do is talk to your parents as an adult and make a case for the college you want to go to. ask them if you can go visit both colleges. if you press on for a while they may actually like your choice.
but seriously your parents have been around while, ask them the real reasons they don't like the college. is it too far, is it too expensive, do they people who have been unsuccessful that went there. whats their deal?
your parents want whats best for you, or what they think is best.
good luck
