it's a cop-out. and many times it is a commitment issue. it's like saying "I can't commit to you on a serious level". especially if that person tells you every day how much they love you and want to be with you, then suddenly tell you they love you but not in love with you.

walk away. don't look back. and don't let that person see your emotions. later, if you choose to remain friends, that's your choice. but don't do it in hopes of reigniting the flames. just let it go. you don't want to be in love with someone who's not in love with you anyway. it sucks to hear it, but it's better to know it now than later, when you think you're happily living in a committed relationship. just chalk it up to experience. you'll be better for it.

My view is this...........
You love someone- Meaning you really have love for them.
You are in love with them- Meaning you like the way they make you feel at this moment.
After a love has matured, you usually are not (in love) anymore. But that doesn't mean you don't love the person.
So basically there are so many relationships out there where the two people don't like things about each other, so they give up on their relationship. But if they really love each other they will realize they miss the other once they are apart.

I've had that said to me before. Its possible to love a friend as you do your own family for example. But being in love with someone suggests a much more intimate, emotional sense of feelings which you don't feel for your own family.
Basically its a way of saying "I really care for you and I want you to be happy, but I'm not that person".
I actually broke up with a fiancee of 2 years when she said that, and I was heartbroken. I'm better for it though, 'cos I'd have lived a lie otherwise.

It's a cop-out to let you down easily. It's like saying I love icecream but I'm not IN love with icecream.

Just walk away from that person. And don't look back. Because they're trying to have it both ways. They want to keep you hanging on so they'll keep their options open, for later. Just in case.

This is something someone says when they wanna break up with you.... if the person really does mean this then it means that they really care about you alot but they do not feel that they love you... it can be that they love you like a sibling.... this kind of feeling is real ya know...

There are many types of love: love for your family, your friends or your pets. I love several of my guy friends, but I am not in love with them. See the difference???? I don't want to marry them or have a relationship with them, sexual that is. I do love the person they are, and I love hanging with them. But I am not "googlie eyed" over them to want anything more than that. Does that help?

In my experience, it's a cop out excuse to throw away a perfectly good relationship because one person doesn't want to deal with whatever issues are going on in the relationship. You know, they run away from their problems rather than facing and dealing with them. Usually that person has found someone else too.
