This is a good question. One of the reasons that such bad themed movies are making it to the big screen when other great movies are being left behind is the people who are selecting them. The television and movie industry has a tendency over the past twenty years to being run by very young executives. These young execs may know the business side, but they are purchasing scripts and developing projects that make them laugh. It seems that the plotlines are stupid as evident by the making of what I call low-humor comedies. We are definitely missing the legends of comedy like Jerry Lewis, George Burns, Bob Hope and Mel Brooks. Robin Williams and Billy Crystal are the closest to the great legends that we have left actively making movies.

Because the audience buys them. Quality generally costs money. Jerry Lewis would have died if he were paid 20 million for a movie. When they do try a remake they try and up it a notch and they usually destroy it.
