what do you tell the clerk when buying gas?

when you have to prepay at the pump and you walk in to talk to the clerk what are the exact words that you use to tell her how much gas/gasoline you want?

Simply tell the clerk how much money you want invested on which gas pump, ex:
"Twenty on three."

Hello-I'd like $20 of gas on pump 3.

Can I have $10 on number 3, thanks. Go pump gas, come back and get change if there is any.

Or make that $10,000 now...

We all picked three...now that's freaking me out. lol
