BOTH your rear window regulators need to be replaced. Your particular car uses a cable and plastic pulley style regulator, and what happens is the cable snaps from age and fatigue, causing exactly the symptom you describe. Because the regulators are fastened to the doors by rivets (which require drilling to remove) on your car in particular, I would recommend taking in to the dealer to replace it. They should be willing to replace it for no more than 1.5 to 2 hours labour plus the cost of the parts, per door. If they quote any higher than that for labour, take it somehwere else. Hope this helps.

there are three pieces of plastic inside the window gearbox. they act as shock absorbers for the gears. eventually they get brittle and crack and the motor just spins the gears without turning the regulator to move the window up and down. if you are handy you can remove the door trim and the drive motor and open the gearbox. I think the parts are available through ford but I've always made my own by cutting 3 pieces of 1/4 inch air hose about 11 mm. long and inserting a piece of 1/4 inch all thread in the center.

Have the dealer fix the windows. You could also call a auto glass company and see if they will repair it for a better price.
