old enough to understand that it will hurt like the devil, but he still wants it done!

i think it's important that he be old enough to care for it on his own...and that he won't 'lose' interest in it in a week or so.

maybe 12 or 13.

**all these 'boys shouldn't have earrings' and thumbs downers should loosen up! good lord, it's just an earring, and the kid will probably get sick of it before he's 20 anyways...gezz!**

I don't think you have a right to do that to your son at all. I think its cute on boys but, there are other people who think nasty things when they see boys with earrings. I think you should wait until your child is old enough to decided on his own if he would like his ear pierced. That way he can choose what he wants not what you want.

I did it the summer before 6th grade, no idea how old that'd make me. Ended up not liking it, but meh, that's what it's all about growing up, trying new things.

No need to really set an age on it though, an ear piercing has no lasting scars if they wanted to get rid of it.

It depends on his level of maturity. A newly pierced ear requires care so it does not get infected. If he can take care of it without being reminded, he's probably old enough. Now, how do you know if he will care for it properly? Does he brush his teeth, take a shower etc. in a responsible manner? If the answer is "yes". He's good to go.

well, my son is 9, he got his ear pierced about 2 weeks ago. he asked me one day if he could. i told him everything there is to know about getting it done. i then told him to wait 2 weeks, then decide. time was up, he still wanted it done, so we went and did it. he takes good care of it, cleans it several times a day ,and turns it. i told him, if he decides he dont like it after all, he can take the earring out, and the hole will close. so far he loves it. he got a diamond stud.

I would want them to be old enough to take care of it themselves. My boyfriends ex wants to get their son's ear pierced and he is only five. Her current boyfriend has his done, so I think that is her motivation.

I don't think he understands the pain and work involved with taking care of them. He has two younger sisters and they both have their ears pierced. Which they haven't had to care for. He thinks their earrings are cute and wants to wear them.

I think he should be 18 and living away from home. My son is 18 and wants to pierce his ears, I told him he could when he could afford to move out and support himself. I'm hoping by that time he outgrows the ear piercing thing all together.

I let my son pierce his ear at 7 yrs old. It only lasted a week and he got tired of being picked on by his peers.

i would say 12 or 13 but if you have a close relationship with your son and your fine with that, then i would say as early as 9. it all depends on how responsible and reliable he is. good luck♥ ♥ ♥
