The Russian Revolution(s) would make an interesting topic. It was pretty complex though, so as someone else suggested, you may want to focus more one aspect of it.

Personally, I think the civil war that followed was pretty interesting, because not only were factions within Russia fighting, but the Japanese, Brits and Americans also intervened. It would be interesting to explore how foreign intervention influenced how the Bolsheviks viewed the West. Would we have had better relations with Communist Russia had we stayed out of the conflict?

The trick for a "history day" project is not to get tied up in the specifics and focus on:

-the main causes of the revolution

-the eventual effects of the revolution

It would be interesting, if not ironic, to explore the differences between the revolutionairies' goals, and what they eventually accomplished, for better or worse...

So, yes, it's an excellent subject, but don't let yourself get bogged down in the minutae, hit the broad facts, unless you're writing a college thesis....

I think that tham and Erik van Thienen are both correct. In particular, there is a tremendous source material for you in "Russia Leaves the War" and "The Decision to Intervene" by George F. Kennan. I think you can pick them up cheap on amazon.com. After the Bolshevik coup of (October? November?) 1917, the Soviets signed the Treaty of Brest Litovsk, whereby they made a separate peace with Germany. After that, the Allies considered whether to invade Russia to secure war materielle against German seizure. They did.

As a followup, "Ten Days that Shook the World," by John Reed, available in cheap paperback.

If you take the Russian Revolution, better take one specific aspect, like the Februari Revolution, the period of dual power, the civil war, the foreign interventions, or its influence on the German Spartacist Revolution from November 1918 to March 1919.

Yes it's a great subject. Russian Revolution and how the royal family was killed and years later one old lady tried to convince the world that she was one who escaped but turned out years after to be a fraud. GREAT STUFF
