when I first take off in the morning acceleration is fine for about 5 minutes. After that it lurches when I step on the gas.At a steady speed it is fine.It will do this for about 15-20 miles then it stops lurching. It's still hard to accelerate and the gas pedal seems stiff(maybe that's just me).the engine has to work harder though to keep a steady speed .Rpm's are steady when it is lurching.

A lot of those GM cars have issues with either the throttle position sensor or the mass airflow sensor.
Just for giggles, put some fuel injector cleaner into your next 2 or 3 tankfuls of gas.
If those check out I'd suspect transmission control circuits. Check the trans fluid...if its black change in ASAP.

While the engine is cold, the computer does not control the emissions/fuel and is preprogramed.

As soon as the engine warms up, the computer goes into what's called "closed loop".
That means the computer is controling the air/fuel mixture, timing, and EGR.

Apearantly, there is a sensor that is not operating properly, and it's nearly impossible to troubleshoot without a diagnostic computer.

Some engine problems may not show in the ODB-2 trouble code scanners.

I recommend have an engine diagnostic done at a REPUTABLE family owned shop that specializes in your make of car. (GM)

Don't start replacing a bunch of parts trying to find the faulty part. It's a tremendous waste of money.

Pep-Boys, Sears, and all those big chain stores hire idiots that can't get a real jobs.
