Following the instruction, I added a can of 134a refregerant into my 1999 Cadilac Catera when the engine and AC are running. But the AC is still very weak. What are possible problems?

A repair shop did it for me twice before and strong cooling effect did last several months.

The problem is you. You don't just pump more 134 in the system without monitoring the high and low pressures to make sure you have the right amount and the system is working properly.

First off, you have a leak that needs repair, second if the system was low on a charge, it could take as many of 4 of those cans to fill the system. Another possible problem, would be the system lost all it's charge and some air got into the closed system. You need to have the system completely evacuated of air with a vacuum pump, leak repaired and then recharged with 134a

I am an AC Technician......you have several differant possibilities why it is not cooling efficiently......

1. how much refrigerant does your car require? it may take more....
2. check your AC compressor clutch and see if it is engaged and pumping the refrigerant.....if it isnt it will not cool, check power to the compressor and your pressure switches.
3. you could have a clogged filter drier, but that would trip the pressure switches described above, as well as a good leak.

That's because the shop knew what they were doing, unlike you who simply followed directions on a can. We wouldn't need mechanics if it were that easy. If you want your a/c to work reliably for many more years, take it back to that shop and let them fix it right.
