I keep hearing things about friend codes and junk. I don't understand. I figured there would be like a lobby or something and you could battle anyone you want. But you can't?
Can anyone tell me how you can battle other people in Pokemon D/P

There are two kind of battles: wifi and wireless.
Wireless battle
You can see the person physically or is in a 20 feet radius. Just go to the 1st floor at any pokemon center and enter a union room or you can choose to battle anyone that is on w/o the use of friend codes.
Wifi battle
You have to exchange friend's codes to battle. You go to the basement of any pokemon center. Go online and if your friend is on, you will see his name.

In battle tower, you simply enter it, choose a room, and battle random people online
It's a 3v3 game, no items (equips are allowed)
