For temporary housing while waiting to go into a decorative pond (don't put them in a natural pond!), I would give a koi 5 gallons per inch.
When they reach adulthood they need approximately 1000 gallons each.
If you are not planning on a pond, do not get koi.

If you still want coldwater fish, you could house 2 adult common goldfish in a 55gal.

You could house 4 adult fancy goldfish in a 55.

Probably 1-2 Kois. Kois are big fish and need a lot of space to swim in. Kois should be in ponds. If you don't have any, try to make one or at least don't keep kois's in aquariuns.

well, you can only put about 2 to 3. koi really prefer ponds. my friend has 5 beautiful 2 ft koi in a backyard pond. you see, koi tend to grow large, although they start out at the size of a small goldfish.

two tops koi and all goldfish are extremely messy and koi get fairly big i would only go with one if you have to have it but none would be better if you really want koi build a pond you can do it for about 200 bucks for a good one if you do the work yourself

You can fit a couple in there when they are babies but they will soon outgrow it and you risk stunting their growth. If you don't have a pond to move them to when they get larger DO NOT buy the koi in the first place.

you could save one in there. they are in a position to arise to 3 ft long. you could save extra juvenile koi in that tank. although interior the destiny they want a pond. Kois are pond fish and are extra useful off in ponds.
