Considering it can be anything from a recharge to a new compressor, from $150 to $1500, there is no way of answering this question. If you have no idea where the problem lies, you go to a shop with a technician who has taken specialized courses in auto a/c, and has the specialized equipment and tools to diagnose and service your unit. An analysis and estimate will probably run about $40.

Year make and model and how many miles will help a lot. Some thing as simple as a charging valve leaking is not expensive. Now a bad compressor. hose, tubing, Evaporator. or Condenser might be more expensive. Rebuilt parts aftermarket condencers help keep costs down. No way I can begin to estimate your problem. I bet it is turning hot where you live and last season your A/C went out. Waiting may have dammaged other A/C parts

If the compressor is bad, a lot. The seals are probably torn up and clogging up the system, and they'll have to replace the accumulator, valve and compressor. $800.
If it just hasn't been charged in 10 years and needs a little refrigerant, $40. Or anywhere in between.

Theres no way anyone on here can answer that question because you dont know what is wrong with it either. Take it to a shop that you trust and let them inspect the system and tell you what needs fixing.

That would depend on what part is broken ?????
ac is fairly simple in how it works ,,,,, but the test equopment and procedures can become extensive ,,,,
Take it to a good shop ,,, that way your not guessing ! ! !
