I had the head gasket replaced (cost $1,041.43) and the car is still overheating, I noticed that the fan (in front of the radiator) is not running unless the ac is on. My mechanic says it may be the sensor so now that is going to be replaced. The car heats up to 200 with in driving 2 miles. please help. Oh and the thermostat is supposedly working.

That car has a 195 thermostat and is supposed to run at about 210. Getting that hot in two miles is perfectly normal., and $1041 is a ridiculous price for a head gasket. Your mechanic is a crook. Why did you think you needed a new gasket in the first place?

A lot of people think that when a headgasket blows the car will overheat, it is most of the times the other way around. What I mean is that there was some overheating and that caused the gasket to blow. To simply replace the headgasket without fixing the original cause of the overheating will not be enough.

On almost all modern cars the cyl head is made off aluminium and that means that once the gasket is blown the head will warp and then you have to take it to an engineering workshop so that they can skim it.

The more common causes for overheating are faulty waterpumps, thermostats, leaky or dirty radiators, electric [if fitted] fans or sender units and ignition timing that is set incorrectly.

If it only overheats while its idling, its either the fan, water pump, or the radiator. If the fan does not kick once the temp. gets past half way or in the red area, then either the fan, a fan relay or sensor. If giving it gas cools it down then a weak water pump. Make sure you get that dex-cool crap out of there either way. It eats away at intake gaskets on the 3.1L,3.4L,and even the 3.8L engines since 1995.

you'll be able to ought to pass to a decrease degree thermostat so that's going to open swifter. No warmth usually means the heater middle is shot, yet while that replaced into the case, the interior floor could be flooded with antifreeze. in case you got this automobile used, that's necessary to benefit that the previous proprietor did no longer reroute the heater middle hoses after the middle went. that's an old "rapid fix" trick that facilitates you to nonetheless force around interior the summertime. this is the way I "fixed" my sixty seven Cougar XR7-GT, this is in basic terms pushed interior the summertime. examine the heater middle hoses.
