if im 17 and i live in the state of west virigina how long can i legally be left at home alone? i'd appreciate a citation of something so i can show my parents, thanks.

As long as you're not a hazard to yourself or others (ie you don't like starting fires in the bedroom, etc) then they can leave you alone as long as THEY choose. If they take vacation for a week, they can leave you as long as they know that you'll be able to care for yourself and not do harm.

If you are talking about days and weeks at a time then you're parents can be held accountable. If you are talking a few hours then grow up and act like you are 17.

No specific answer but it it doesn't matter if you're 17 or 7 - you're still a minor and leaving you alone for an extended period of time can be considered negligence.
What is "negligent" isn't defined by a specific period of time but how they prepare you e.x. they mentally prepare you by telling you what they're doing, provide a store of food, etc.

As long as you have food, clothing and the mortgage and electricity is paid, your parents can pretty much neglect you for as long as they want to. You could contact the child abuse agency in your state and ask them. They have a toll free number. I wish there was someway I could help you. Good luck.

You're 17! You aren't a baby. I'm sure you can feed and bathe yourself without mom and dad's help.
