I would build homeless shelters. I hate seeing homeless people, especially the Vietnam Vets who fought for our country and then got put out with no family or anything anymore.

If I could do one deed, regardless of if I am able to literally do it right now, I'd probably cure a disease such as AIDS. It would be hard to specifically pick one (were that I was given a choice), but the fact alone would be good enough without ever receiving credit.

Oh please Keith, it's Yahoo, and we don't give our real names so doesn't that make us anonymous? Just answer the question. Sorry. If I could do one deed to benefit humans, I would see to it that no one was homeless. Even now, if I was a millionaire, I would do everything I could for the homeless. It breaks my heart when you see a mother with children and no place to go but a cardboard box to sleep in. Yeah, I would like doing that. I really like Jennifer S answer. She is so right.

True altruism is to do something for others without expecting something in return. I would give support, compassion and hope to those who are suffering, food to those who are hungry, a shelter to those who don't have a home, a cure to those who are sick and my care and concern to those who are sad and lonely. In our daily lives we can all behave with love and respect towards others and this already will greatly benefit humans.

Do it. People do it all the time and some are even discredited for their actions. However, you should realize there is an element of self-service because a benefit for mankind would naturally benefit all humans and the doer would be a recipient also.

My husband and I just talked about his. If we won the lottery we would find senior citizens that cannot afford their medicine and pay for it for life. There are so many seniors that worked their whole life and have to choose between meds and food. That is HORRIBLE. With all of the young healthy people on food stamps that are capable of working that is the biggest disgrace. That is what we would do. Sorry if my "wordy" answer isn't altuistic enough. I guess since I am not able to do that I can talk about it all I want.

Somehow, I would pay for every senior citizen's health bill and provide a solution for world hunger.

Nothing.

Humans will be dead before 1,000 years is up anyway. For the past 6 million years our lives were nasty, brutish, and short. Who cares if the next 1,000 are better?

The cosmos doesn't care.
